Identity in Christ — 3 Simple Practices to Stay Rooted
Share
When you’ve lived through rejection, pain, or comparison, it can be hard to believe who God says you are. Identity in Christ isn’t just a Sunday truth — it’s the foundation for every healed thought, every restored relationship, and every act of purpose that follows.
To stay rooted in that truth, you must practice it — not perfectly, but intentionally.
“So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in Him, rooted and built up in Him.” — Colossians 2:6–7
Here are three simple ways to keep your identity grounded in Him daily.
1. Speak God’s Word Over Yourself
The enemy attacks where identity is uncertain. Counter that by declaring Scripture out loud every day.
When you wake up:
“I am fearfully and wonderfully made.” (Psalm 139:14)
When you feel unseen:
“I am chosen and dearly loved.” (Colossians 3:12)
When shame resurfaces:
“I am a new creation in Christ.” (2 Corinthians 5:17)
Your words are powerful. Every declaration is a seed that renews your mind.
2. Practice Gratitude and Reflection
When life feels heavy, it’s easy to focus on what’s broken. But gratitude resets your perspective and realigns your heart with God’s goodness.
Take a few minutes each day to write three things you’re thankful for — big or small.
Then, ask: “Where did I see God’s hand in this?”
This simple rhythm softens your heart and builds trust that your identity is anchored in a faithful God, not in fleeting emotions.
3. Stay Connected to Life-Giving Community
Identity thrives in community. Isolation feeds doubt, but connection reinforces truth. Surround yourself with people who remind you who you are when you forget.
Join a Bible study, follow faith-based mentors, or connect with online communities focused on healing and growth. Even a short conversation with a friend who points you back to God can reignite your confidence.
Closing Reflection
Your identity in Christ isn’t something you earn — it’s something you receive. Every day you choose to stand in that truth, you push back against the lies that once held you captive.
Prayer:
Father, thank You for reminding me who I am in You. Help me to see myself through Your eyes and to walk boldly in the purpose You’ve called me to. Keep my heart rooted in Your Word and surrounded by people who reflect Your love. Amen.
