When Forgiveness Feels Impossible
Share
Some wounds cut so deep, the idea of forgiving feels like asking the impossible.
If you’ve ever whispered, “I can’t forgive them”—or cried it out in prayer—you’re not alone.
When someone you love deeply betrays your trust, especially within your own family, the pain can feel too heavy to let go.
Maybe they never apologized.
Maybe they acted like it never happened.
Maybe they’re still in your life… carrying on as if they didn’t break something sacred.
And you’re left holding the pieces—while people tell you to “just forgive.”
What Forgiveness Is—and Isn’t
Let’s be clear:
-
Forgiveness doesn’t mean you’re okay with what happened.
-
It doesn’t mean trusting them again.
-
It doesn’t mean letting them back into a place where they can wound you again.
Forgiveness means placing the offense into God’s hands.
It’s deciding that their actions won’t control your mind, your peace, or your future.
Romans 12:19 reminds us:
“Vengeance is mine; I will repay, says the Lord.”
When you forgive, you’re not excusing the betrayal—you’re releasing the weight and trusting God to handle the justice.
When It Feels Impossible
The truth is, forgiveness isn’t natural.
It’s not something we can muster up through sheer willpower.
It’s supernatural—only possible through the power of the Holy Spirit.
And God never asks you to do it alone.
Jesus said in Matthew 19:26:
“With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”
That includes forgiving the one who caused your deepest hurt.
