Trusting God When You Can't Predict the Outcome

Trusting God When You Can't Predict the Outcome

🌿 August Series: Moving Forward After Healing

This month we're exploring what it means to step into the life God is calling us to after seasons of disappointment, healing, and growth. Healing is not the destination—it is preparation for what comes next.

When You Stop Trusting Your Own Voice

Have you ever found yourself asking someone else to make a decision you already knew the answer to?

Perhaps you asked several people.

You prayed.

You sought advice.

You read another book.

You watched another sermon.

You waited for another sign.

Not because you lacked wisdom.

But because somewhere along the way, you stopped trusting yourself.

For many people, one of the hidden consequences of emotional wounds is not simply that they stop trusting others.

They stop trusting the person God is shaping them to become.

Every decision becomes second-guessed.

Every opportunity is questioned.

Every impression is doubted.

Confidence quietly gives way to uncertainty.

If that describes you, you're not alone.

And more importantly, it doesn't have to remain that way.

Confidence Can Be Broken Quietly

Not every loss of confidence happens because of one dramatic event.

Sometimes it happens slowly.

Years of criticism.

Repeated rejection.

Having your thoughts dismissed.

Being told you're too sensitive.

Too emotional.

Too ambitious.

Too much.

After hearing those messages often enough, they begin to drown out your own voice.

Eventually, you begin questioning yourself before anyone else has the chance to.

When Wisdom Becomes Second-Guessing

There is a difference between seeking wise counsel and constantly doubting yourself.

Scripture encourages us to seek counsel.

But it never encourages us to become paralyzed by indecision.

Many people confuse humility with insecurity.

Humility acknowledges that we don't know everything.

Insecurity believes we know nothing.

Humility seeks wisdom.

Insecurity waits for someone else to tell us what we already sense God has been saying.

God Is Restoring More Than Your Circumstances

When God heals us, He isn't only restoring relationships.

He is restoring confidence.

Not confidence rooted in ourselves.

Confidence rooted in His work within us.

As you grow in Christ, your discernment grows.

Your wisdom grows.

Your ability to recognize His voice grows.

That doesn't mean you'll never make another mistake.

It means you no longer have to live believing every decision will become one.

Listen to the Voice God Is Renewing

Romans 12 reminds us that transformation comes through the renewing of our minds.

As our minds are renewed, our thinking changes.

Our identity changes.

Our confidence changes.

The old voice that constantly whispers, "You'll get it wrong," begins losing its influence.

A new voice emerges.

Not louder.

Truer.

It reminds us:

"God has been faithful before."

"The Holy Spirit is still guiding you."

"You are not the same person you were five years ago."

"You have grown."

Small Decisions Build New Confidence

Confidence is rarely restored through one giant leap.

It is rebuilt through small acts of obedience.

One decision.

One conversation.

One boundary.

One opportunity.

One prayer.

Every time you respond to God's leading, your confidence grows a little stronger.

Not because you become fearless.

Because you become increasingly convinced that God is faithful.

You Are Becoming Someone New

Perhaps the greatest mistake we make is believing that because we once lacked wisdom, we always will.

But healing changes us.

Growth changes us.

God changes us.

You are not making today's decisions with yesterday's understanding.

You are making them as someone who has walked through pain, experienced God's grace, and learned valuable lessons along the way.

Don't allow your past version of yourself to keep speaking over the person God is shaping today.

Time to Reflect

  • Where do I find myself constantly second-guessing my decisions?
  • Whose voice has influenced the way I see myself?
  • How has God grown me over the past few years?
  • What is one decision I can make with confidence this week?

Prayer

Father, thank You that You are renewing my mind and shaping me into the person You created me to be. Heal the places where criticism, rejection, and disappointment have caused me to doubt myself. Help me recognize Your voice above every voice of fear and insecurity. Teach me to walk with wisdom, confidence, and humility, trusting that You will continue to guide my steps. In Jesus' name, Amen.
