The Courage to Begin Again

The Courage to Begin Again

🌿 August Series: Moving Forward After Healing

This month we're discovering that healing is not the end of the journey—it is preparation for the life God is calling us to live. Each week we're taking another step toward moving forward with courage, confidence, and faith.

When You Want Certainty More Than Faith

"God, just show me how it's all going to work out."

Have you ever prayed a prayer like that?

I know I have.

We want to obey God.

We want to follow His leading.

We genuinely desire His will.

But if we're honest, we would also like a detailed roadmap.

We want to know where the path leads.

That the decision will be right.

That the relationship will work.

That the opportunity won't end in disappointment.

That we won't have to walk through another painful season.

There is only one problem.

God rarely gives us certainty.

He gives us Himself.

Faith Begins Where Certainty Ends

If we could see every step, faith would not be necessary.

Faith is trusting God's character when we cannot predict the outcome.

It is believing His goodness before we see the evidence.

It is taking one step because He asked us to, not because we know exactly where it will lead.

Our Desire for Certainty Makes Sense

After disappointment, certainty feels safe.

After betrayal, certainty feels protective.

After loss, certainty feels comforting.

Pain teaches us to avoid risk.

But God teaches us to trust His presence.

The two are not the same.

Abraham Didn't Receive the Whole Map

When God called Abraham, He didn't hand him a complete itinerary.

He simply said, "Go."

Abraham knew Who was leading him.

He didn't know every place the journey would take him.

The same is true for us.

God often reveals the next step before He reveals the entire path.

One Step Is Enough

Sometimes we postpone obedience because we are waiting for information God never promised to provide.

But one step taken in faith often reveals the next.

You don't need tomorrow's grace for today's obedience.

You need today's grace for today's step.

Reflection Questions

  • Where am I waiting for certainty before obeying God?
  • What next step has God already made clear?
  • How has God proven Himself faithful in past seasons of uncertainty?
  • What would trusting His character look like today?

Prayer

Father, forgive me for the times I've wanted certainty more than I've wanted faith. Help me trust Your character when I cannot see the outcome. Give me courage to obey You one step at a time, knowing that You are faithful. Thank You for going before me and walking beside me in every season. In Jesus' name, Amen.
