Covered by Lies: How Shame Redefines Us
Share
Shame doesn’t just whisper—it covers.
It can wrap itself so tightly around your identity that you forget what freedom feels like. Sometimes you don’t even realize it’s there because you’ve been carrying it for so long.
If you’ve ever hidden your feelings… worked to earn love… or minimized your story so it wouldn’t make others uncomfortable… shame has been at work, shaping how you see yourself.
Shame Covers with False Identity
Shame tells you:
-
Be quieter.
-
Be more useful.
-
Be who they need—not who you are.
-
Never let them see the real you.
You start building layers over your voice, your value, and your vulnerability. And the more you cover up, the less you feel truly known.
But here’s the truth: God never designed you to live covered in shame.
“Instead of your shame you shall have double honor…” — Isaiah 61:7
God doesn’t cover you with guilt—He covers you with grace. He doesn’t clothe you in fear—He robes you in righteousness. He doesn’t silence your voice—He invites you to speak again.
It’s Time to Reflect
What false “coverings” have you been using to hide the parts of yourself shame has attacked? What would it look like to let God clothe you instead with His truth?
